Today is Presidents Day, a day to discuss our Presidents' legacies, which is a worthy conversation when approached in good faith. Yet, if these discussions are not grounded in unmodified truth and context, isn't it all just propaganda?

On February 7, 2023, President Biden gave his annual ‘State of the Union’ speech on Capitol Hill, an address brimming with optimism, (mostly) justified applause bait, and a distinctly bipartisan tone. The problem is, however, the Republicans are just a bunch of jerks.

This afternoon, August 8, 2022, the FBI executed a search warrant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents that he may or may not have taken from the White House (which is clearly a big no-no — duuhh).

Forced pregnancy is a *very official* crime against humanity (Source: United Nations) with six in ten Americans agreeing abortion should be legal in all or most cases (Source: Pew Research) — yet extremist right-wing SCOTUS have entirely disregarded these facts, with full knowledge of the level of division that would ensue.

One hundred and sixty-four years ago, on this day, Thursday, June 16, Abraham Lincoln said that slavery had to be *resolved*, declaring that, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

What will we say about June 16 in 2023?

I often get asked to engage in “good faith” discussions with people who have differing opinions to mine — and I am all for that! After all, good faith discussions are based on truth and honesty, as well as being open to new evidence and differing perspectives.

However, let’s be clear: being told I have to listen to “both sides” by delusional people who are sprouting blatant misinformation is just never going to happen. Ever.

Read the IPCC report? Feeling incredibly shit about it? Well, it *is* shit, so we hear you. And while it is perfectly okay and normal to feel low about this, we also have to come to terms with the present and the certainties of our future, in order to be able to create viable solutions.
