Stop Being Shocked. Start Being Active.

Bloody protests arising from food and fuel shortages, coupled with sudden-onset climatic events, including severe and relentless natural disasters, has forced thousands of Haitians to leave their homeland, ending up at the Texas border.

Seeking asylum is legal. Yet there, at the border, these refugees have been beaten and whipped in plain f’ing daylight. And what has been so many people’s response?

😮😱🤭

People! We have to stop with the shock and dismay when we see the ongoing mistreatment of Black, Indigenous and People of Color. It is not helpful. The racism we have been repeatedly told and shown exists should not be a surprise. Posting a picture of a Black refugee being degraded by a white man, without critically thinking about the cause and effect of all that is f_cked in this world is useless click bait and triggering to so many people.

If you checked out politically after Joe Biden was elected, I’m sorry to tell you but you’re a part of the problem. Having a new White House administration does not undo white supremacy and the amount of messages we’ve received since he was elected telling us to ‘lighten up’ is frankly flabbergasting.

Stop being shocked and dismayed. Start being outraged and active:

One email to your rep isn’t going to change the world. But a million emails from ten thousand people will.

Stop being shocked and dismayed. Start being outraged and active.
