An Open Letter to Climate Deniers
By Jo Lorenz
Don’t believe in climate change science? Then stop benefiting from science when it suits your narrative.
Jo Lorenz pens a letter to climate change deniers . . .
Dear climate change deniers,
97% of scientists agree that humans are causing global warming and climate change. So, I am here to endeavour to understand how you can deny such overwhelming scientific consensus, yet then believe in and benefit from science in all other areas of your lifestyle? 🤔
Forgive me, I am a little hazy on the rules of how you qualify which science you agree with and which science you simply disregard . . . I mean, you own and drive a car, right? And you get that cars are science, right? In any case, I think perhaps you should ditch the crazy science-metal-box-on-wheels and get yourself a horse. Just for consistency.
Cars aside, how’s your health? Take any medicine? Lord say it isn’t so! Medicine be witchcraft from dem pesky scientists. Surely you’d be better suited to trusting that high cholesterol has been happening to people for thousands of years — you know, like “weather patterns”. So go ahead and clog those arteries, deniers. It’s perfectly natural. Again, just for consistency, you understand. Not because I want you to, well, die.
Hey speaking of food, I’m off to eat something delicious, harvested via modern agriculture — yum! None of this for you though. But I’m sure you’ll enjoy your Amish bread . . . *for-ev-er* . . . wait, how are you even reading this? Are you on a smartphone? Shit put it down! Diabolical science, at it again.
So to be a good little consistent denier, you should probably just stop using all forms of electricity and plumbing; rebuke all facets of technology; stop eating pretty much everything; never pop a pill again; forget about your reading glasses; and quit talking about economic policy based on the founding of science. But do enjoy that barefoot walk across your barren flat-earth.
Orrr . . . if you don’t want to give these things up (as I can see a lot of worried viagra-faces out there), then please repeat after me: I cannot unquestioningly benefit from science in all areas of my life, and then blatantly deny it in other areas when it suits my agenda. This is called hypocrisy. It makes me a sanctimonious knob.
Good. Job well done!
Love from Jo xx
